Henry Moore

Henry Moore was an english artist and sculptor. He is best known for his abstract monumental bronze sculptures which are located around the world as public works of art.

Moore's early work focused on direct carving in which the form of the sculpture evolves as the artist repeatedly whittles away at the block. In the 1930's, Moores transition into modernism parralleled that of Barbara Hepworth, the two exchanged ideas with each other and other artists. Moore made many preparatory sketches and drawings for earch sculpture. Most of these sketchbooks have survived and provide an insight into Moore's development. He placed great importance on drawing, even when he had arthritus he was still able to draw.
