Biographical Note:
Andréa Antonon graduated in Fine Arts in 1981 in São Paulo. She started painting in 1976, when she was only 17 years old. In a 26-year career, she has attended highly regarded art schools in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, besides Columbia University, in New York. In her work Andréa chooses a diversity of techniques and materials, such as watercolour paintings, canvases with textures and a number of materials, such as marble dust, and also the work developed during the nine years she lived in Chapada dos Guimarães, in the state of Mato Grosso, a western region of Brazil, where she used papers made by castor bean fibre and sugar cane and also natural pigments such as iron oxide. Since 1988 she has exhibited both individually and collectively at the most important museums and galleries in Rio, São Paulo and New York.
