Biographical Note
Nick Harris's compositions are created in large measure through the depiction of
strong light. The rich vibrant light of the Mediterranean can be so brightly
reflected from surfaces that living shadows are created. At the same time the wide
range of domestic buildings are often of a relaxed nature full of character and
idiosyncrasy. These qualities of light and architecture are used to create images
of unusual clarity, and to provide a basis for the artist's geometrically
structured compositions.
Most of the artist's childhood was spent in Dorset and in Devon. After leaving
school he went to Art College, graduating from Newcastle Polytechnic with a First
Class Dip.A.D. in 1971. He was also awarded a Walter Neurath Art Book Prize. For
the next four years he taught part-time on the Fine Art Degree course at
Newcastle. Since 1976 Nick Harris has been a full time painter. He spent some
living in Greece, but since 1979 he has been living and working in Dorset. Nick
was one of the authors of "Mix your own Acrylics", published in 1995. Throughout
the eighties and nineties he has visited a number of countries gathering working
material. All Nick's paintings are produced using acrylic paint, almost always
on canvas or on paper board.
