Biographical Note:
Derek Jones was trained at the Department of Fine Art, Newcastle University. After
a short spell in museums he returned to Newcastle to train as an art teacher.
He taught for about 14 years and then resigned to concentrate on his work,
whilst running a small gallery in Berwick-upon-Tweed. He is self taught in
screen printing and etching and has always been interested in figure work.
For last five years he has largely specialized in the latter and works
with models most mornings, usually in charcoal, pencil,
acrylic or water-colour. At other times he works in oil and does etchings
directly from the model.
Derek has shown in Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Helmsley, Newbury and has an
agent in America. He has also exhibited in Salisbury, Worcester, Newcastle
and in venues local to him, such as Paxton House and the Maltings Art Centre.
