Biographical Note:
Yvonne Crossley studied painting at Goldsmiths College School of Art. She first exhibited in the Young Contemporaries at The Tate, London, a show selected by Richard Hamilton, Bryan Robertson and Leslie Waddington and subsequently held solo exhibitions in city galleries across the UK including the Ikon Gallery; Birmingham, the Laing Gallery; Newcastle Upon Tyne, the Midland Group Gallery; Nottingham, and Battersea Arts Centre; London.
She has worked in art education at foundation and degree level since 1968 at a range of institutions including University of Northumbria in Newcastle, Winchester School of Art, Southampton Institute, University of Portsmouth, Epsom School of Art and, since 1992, at Wimbledon School of Art. Her awards include an Italian Government Bursary, a Brazilian Government Scholarship and a DAAD Post-Graduate Research Grant. She registered for a PhD at Wimbledon School of Art/University of Surrey in 1995, and
completed in 2001. Her recent project started six years ago as an in-depth investigation into the views and experiences of a group of women towards their own ageing. Over several years material was assembled through interviews, drawings, photographs and written observations which formed the basis of a series of visual interpretations on behalf of the women presented as an exhibition:
