Biographical Note:
Toyin Loye was born in Nigeria, in 1959, and was apprenticed to a renowned street artist from 1972-75. He was a student at the College of Arts & Sciences, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, from 1981-83, was resident at the University of Nigeria from 1983-87 and, throughout the 1990s, has lived and travelled in Indonesia, Bhutan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Japan, Sri-Lanka and the Philippines. He is a modern representative of the old African art tradition and his work celebrates the richness and attributes of African culture. He has exhibited in Japan and Indonesia, whilst within Europe galleries in Amsterdam, The Hague and Brussels have displayed his work. This year he has appeared at Blackheath Gallery, London, the KunstRai, Amsterdam, and the Kochi International Triannale, Japan.
